Overview:
Music City held a Holocaust Remembrance Program at the Nashville JCC. The program started with a Shabbat service outside at Nashville's Holocaust Memorial. The reason we did the prayers outside, was so that we could meditate while in prayer (it was a beautiful day outside) and we could connect to the meaning of the program --> Holocaust survivors in Nashville.
Along with prayers, each girl had a chance to lead a prayer, read stories from people who were in the Holocaust, and lead a discussion using questions based on the stories.
Each discussion had to do with Judaism and the Holocaust, but it also made the girls think of how harsh the times were back then and how fortunate we are now. These stories also triggered questions in the girls minds that they might have asked the survivors after they told us THEIR story. (see attached stories/questions)
After, the girls moved inside to hear from a couple (Mr. and Mrs. Rosenfeld) who survived the Holocaust. They showed us pictures and books, as well as having a question and answer session after they finished their stories. Hearing their personal experiences made it a very meaningful program.
