Program Summary:
This program is a great way to strengthen brotherhood or sisterhood in a chapter, and to help retain members.
Full Description:
Overview:
Chapter Convention is a three day two night competition. There are four teams, all different colors, competing against each other in numerous events. This event is great for chapters who need more brotherhood or sisterhood, need to retain members, or just want to have a great time.
Planning:
For this program, two chapter members planned the event, and ran it. We started out by creating different events in each of the 5 folds. Then we wrote detailed instructions for each event beforehand to limit confusion. Next we created a schedule, and went through each event to see what supplies we needed. After researching the price for the supplies and food, we were able to come up with a price of only $35. After all of this was done, we chose four team captains, and teams. The coordinators and the captains, as well as our Godol met to go over the schedule, make t-shirts, and give out teams so the captains could tell their teams important information such as what color their team was.
Program Logistics:
First off, it is important to find one or two houses to host the convention before anything. We choose to do chapter convention at two houses because we do the same thing at our regional convention. (We had team captains, who were all seniors, drive their teams) It is also important to keep in mind what resources (sports fields, supplies, JCC, etc...) you have while planning the program. The two houses that hosted chapter convention had either a park or a sports complex extremely close by, so we could walk there for some of our programs. When choosing a date, make sure to contact your advisor to make sure that he/she can be there. Again, when choosing a cost, it is important to investigate how much supplies and food will cost so you can have an accurate, low price.
The schedule and instructions for each program are attached.
We did this program during the beginning of summer vacation for maximum attendance.

Submitter's Suggestions:
Plan this program far in advance. Make sure that you have travel time added in the schedule and room for lee-way in each program.
