Program Summary:
During VAC's Spring Council convention 2009, a sisterhood program was held in the dorms and it bonded us closer than before and helped us boost our confidence up!
Full Description:
Who?: Virginia Council BBG
Where?: Eastern-VAC VAC Spring Council
When?: March 20, 2009
Why?: To build girl's self esteem up and to have a bond with in the council
Have all the girls sit in one big circle and once they are settled...ask them to draw a piece of paper out of the BBG BOX(use a shoe box) and make sure they get a piece of paper with a different member's name on it. If they get themselves, ask them to draw another name or trade with the person beside them. Even if they don't know the person very well, ask them to hold onto. NO ONE should trade names unless they got themselves. Spooey will be passed around and music will be playing in the background. Make sure to pass pens around and give them 5-10 minutes to write something really nice about that person and have them sign it off saying "Love your Sister BBG (YOUR NAME)" Then have them fold it back up and put it back into the box. Once everyone is done, continue to the next part of the program. Explain to the girls that they are going to be using the yarn in this half and start with the person leading the program. They are going to tie it around their wrist and then explain that they have to say a BBG that they are glad they have gotten to know better throughout their years of BBYO and then say why they chose that person. They should start of saying, "This girl or BBG.....and that person is(Insert name) Ask them not to say their best friend or someone they have known for a long time. When they are finished have them throw it to that person and then so on. Make sure that each girl is wrapping it around their wrist before they say anything. Once everyone is done, you will notice a web created. Explain to the girls that this web is how we are connected as sisters and without it we would not have our own piece of a BBG. Then go around cut the web so they have a bracelet of their piece of their own BBG. Now go back to the pieces of paper that every girl wrote on...and have the girls re-draw the papers out of the box and once everyone is finished drawing names out. Start with someone and have them read the note. They will most likely get someone else note, but all they have to do is read it and who ever that paper belongs to will be surprised by someone else. EXAMPLE: Suppose Girl 4 draws out the paper that is suppose to be about Girl 2 and then it was signed by Girl 8. She would read the note saying "This is for Girl 2" and then she reads it and would then say " Love your sister BBG, Girl 8." Then give it to that girl (Girl 2). If time runs out just pass them out back to the girls. The program takes about an hour and 15 minutes to do! Have fun!
Supplies Needed:
A shoebox
2 balls of pretty colored yarn or 1 big ball of yarn (have an extra ball in case you run out)
Numerous sheets of paper (padded paper works the best)
Pens
Scissors
Ipod and Ipod Speakers
Spooey
The planning process:
Make sure you know what are girls are going to the program so you can have every girl's name on the piece of paper already in advance! It takes about 2-3 days of planning to make sure you have all of your materials and everything is set. The price should range no less than 10 dollars. You can gather most of these materials from around your house.
Submitter's Suggestions:
Make you have enough time because the program is longer then you think it is. The web part takes a long time to do. If you do run out of time just pass them back to do the girls and the program is over
