Program Summary:
This program allows girls to understand the Menorah Pledge in a more realistic way, while finding their true bond to BBG. This program is emotional and allows girls (new and old members) to feel the power of BBG with their sisters.
Full Description:
Goals:
- To educate members on the Menorah Pledge through realistic application.
- To show BBGs the power of being a member.
- To increase bonding within your region/chapter.
Audience: Works best with 35 or more girls.
Supplies: Tea light candles, pens, slips of paper.
Directions: The BBGs will be sitting in a circle in the middle of the room, with the girls leading the program standing in the middle. Must be done at nighttime with no available light. Tea light candles will be positioned in the center of the circle in the shape of a menorah, but the top candle on each branch will not be lit. First, each BBG will be given a slip of paper on which they will write down a personal struggle. Then, they will place their paper in a box and each girl will read a paper other then their own aloud. After, the facilitator will read the opening. Two readers (or how many you choose) will alternate. They will walk around the circle while reading. Person one will read all of the actual Menorah Pledge Principles, and Person two will read the letters from BBGs (all stories are fictional). After each Pledge and its corresponding letter has been read, the successive branch of the menorah will be lit. After the last letter has been read the facilitator will open discussion up to the room and ask BBGs to share their own personal experiences with BBG.
This program worked phenomenally in my region (SJR). We did this program late Friday night at our regional Sisterhood convention. I was surprised to see how many girls were willing to share their personal experiences with BBG, and afterwards everybody felt a sense of pride. This program definitely set the tone for the weekend. Many of the girls at the convention were newer members, mostly freshman, and they were really able to feel a connection to BBG through this program. Keep in mind that all stories are fictional and I wrote each story based on one of the Menorah Pledge Principles. The last story is a personal comment, so feel free to change it around. Good luck!

Submitter's Suggestions:
This program works GREAT for BBG members of all ages! It is an emotional program, so it will work best at night and with a group of around 40 or so.
