Program Summary:

Chapter members can learn all about the IDF in a hands-on and exciting way!  This program includes taking a sample IDF entrance test, an interactive training session, and a LaserTag battle!

Full Description:

FIND A LOCAL ISRAELI WHO SERVED IN THE IDF:  We found Ofir Itah, a 22-year-old Israeli woman working for a year in Memphis.  In the IDF, she trained new forces on basic civilian protection methods.

00:00-00:10-> Ofir (a local Israeli) explained all about the IDF and its importance in Israel.  She explained about preparations for the IDF and the intense training she went through.  Ofir also talked about the different divisions and tests required to enter the IDF.  (If you can not find a local Israeli to speak, find this information yourself and present it to your chapter)

00:10-00:15-> Watch a YouTube video about IDF training.  We watched this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC72ExRA8Xs&feature=related

00:15-00:30-> A questionnaire (attached) was handed out to each participant about divisions of the IDF.  Each participant circled the division they were interested in and handed the sheet in.  Then, a sample IDF test was handed out.  After the test was completed by the program participants, it was handed in also.

**Currently, the S'gan has two sheets from everyone who attended the program: an IDF division sheet and a practice entrance test.

00:30-01:00-> While the S'gan grades the entrance tests, the program participants were doing IDF drills with Ofir.  The drills/tasks included:

  1.  Getting into a group of 6 and making a pyramid with your bodies (represents the different levels of leadership in the IDF)
  2.  Splitting the group in half and each group makes up a drill step and chant (i.e. Left, Left, Left, Right, Left.)
  3.  Make your own drills or search online!

01:00-01:10-> The Chapter S'gan returned with the graded papers and handed them back.  People realized that even the simplest of questions were actually tough.  Depending on the variety of IDF divisions selected by the participants, try to group people into TWO GROUPS and call out names and their new division.  This group is their team for LaserTag!!

Find a local LaserTag location and make sure they can accommodate you at the speculated time and date.
DO NOT leave anyone behind on your way to LaserTag!  Make sure each participant has a ride with an older member if they don't drive!

Make sure everyone has paid for their LaserTag and is in the correct group! (If your laser tag location does not have teams, then explain that it is the IDF vs. everyone else)

After LaserTag is over, finish the program with a story from an IDF veteran (Ofir) or find an inspirational IDF story online!

Submitter's Suggestions:

-Make the IDF drills fun!
-Make your OWN IDF entrance exam!
-Call LaserTag at least two weeks in advance!
