Program Summary:
This was a fun and meaningful way for girls to learn the facts about breast cancer, Big Sisters, and BBYO.
Full Description:
Supplies needed:
-Shabbat service
-Shabbat supplies (candlesticks, candles)
-beads and string for bracelets
-Live Strong Breast Cancer bracelets
-BBYO questions
-big room or outside porch
Planning: We had to purchase the Breast Cancer bracelets ahead of time so they would arrive in time for the program. The big sisters and little sisters also had to be assigned before the program. Dinner was provided because we asked the host family in advance. We had three advisors total who helped out with the execution of the program and ran the race the next morning!
5:30-6 Chill time with the chapter
6-6:30 Shabbat Service
6:30-6:45 Present Big Sisters/Little Sisters
6:45-7:15 Dinner!
7:15-7:35 Bracelet making
7:35-8 BBYO/Breast Cancer trivia relays
Six Folds
Sisterhood--> Our Big Sisters/Little Sisters were announced by having the big sister read the little sister's name off of the pink Live Strong bracelets that were tied together. We also made bracelets for our big or little sister after dinner.
Creativity--> We created a brand new program from scratch! We also ate fun snacks made by the members like boobie cookies and Breast Cancer ribbon cookies!
Social Action--> The main purpose of the program was Breast Cancer Awareness, since October is breast cancer awareness month. We told facts about the disease and learned how to be less at risk.
Recreation--> After bracelets, we had fun trivia relays which asked questions about BBYO and the chapter.
Jewish Heritage--> Innovative Shabbat services that the girls had never seen before! We did new tunes, read facts in between, and enjoyed nature on a porch outside.
Community Service--> We had girls volunteer at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in downtown Nashville the next morning! The girls were Cure Leaders, or public educators about breast cancer, and handed out informative key chains to participants at the race.
