Program Summary:
Need a year-long community service project? Want to better BBYO's reputation in your city? Adopt a local stream as a chapter and clean it up while listening to your favorite music!
Full Description:
As a yearlong community service project, Ohavim BBG in Charlotte, NC adopted a section of a local stream through the city's Adopt-A-Stream program.
Pre-Program Planning: Search online for your city's Adopt-A-Stream program and contact person. With this person, the chapter Sh'licha selected a conveniently located stream, cosigned (with the chapter adviser) a 2 year contract to adopt the stream, and had all members under 18 get waver forms signed by their parents.
Logistics: Start adoption process 1-4 months before first program. Check out the stream before your adopt it, to make sure there is enough parking nearby and that the stream is accessible. Send out directions beforehand. Make sure you have an adviser or two parents present.
Supplies: Trash bags, waders, trash grabbers, gloves (all usually supplied by the city)

How to make it fun: Upbeat music, dance breaks, prizes for best dancer/singer/cleaner, ice cream before or after, etc.
