Program Summary:
A meaningful program held at Judy Kravitz's Spring Retreat, comparing our chapter to Apple, Inc. Girls looked into the chapter's future, as well as their own.
Full Description:
The project began with a thought provoking introduction, comparing various aspects of our chapter and Apple. This included issues of trust (people place trust in the Apple brand; our chapter has lost this sense of trust and connection), as well as Apple's ability to see into the future of the technology market. I have included my introduction with this entry.
After discussing Apple's ability to look into the future, I passed a box around to all of the girls and told them the future of the chapter was inside the box. They were instructed to take a peek inside, but remain quite. All they saw in the box was a mirror, reflecting their own image.
We proceeded to have a discussion about what they saw for the future of our chapter, and the difference they wanted to make. This was particularly meaningful to the girls; our chapter had lost it's path, and this was a time for us to get back on track. I have also attached a list of goals the girls set for themselves, and I will continue to remind them of their goals.
Finally, each girl made their own "crystall balls" to see into the future. They decorated their mirrors how ever they pleased, and kept them as a reminder of the future they saw for themselves, in and outside of BBYO.
Supplies needed:
A box with a mirror at the bottom, to be passed around.
A small mirror (at least 4X4) for each person
Supplies to decorate the mirrors with (glitter glue, ribbon, stickers, wooden letters, etc.)
For the program leader, keep a pencil and piece of paper handy for the discussion.
Submitter's Suggestions:
NOTE: We did this program following an emotional discussion around a bonfire. The somber mood helped set a better tone for the project, and the girls were more focused.Although we ran out of time, I planned three other components to the program in order to make it a Six Fold project. For Social Action, I had planned an Aids Awareness activity. This related to Apple's Product(RED) initiative. Also, for Recreation, we were going to play a game called Poison Ivy (similar to Sharks and Minos), mimicking the manner in which Apple creates a "following" of consumers. Lastly, to include Jewish Hertiage, we were going to discuss technological advances in Israel, and other inventions made by Jews.
