Program Summary:
A night full of spirit, sisterhood, super nom ranking, summer programs, and most importantly, SIXTY THREE!
Full Description:
About a week before the program, our N’siah, Leanna, and I created a facebook event advertising the program. We planned on having a potluck dinner, so we told everyone to bring in foods that begin with the letter “S” to fit the theme of the night. To spice things up, we told girls to dress in ‘80s attire. We also messaged all the girls who had attended a summer program and asked them if they would be willing to speak about their experience. The girls who had agreed to speak were asked to make a powerpoint slide with pictures and to bring in their summer program attire (i.e. Kallah sweatshirts, or CLTC chapter shirts).
The program was on a Friday night, so the first thing we did was have services. Because one of the biggest themes of the night was summer program promotion, we had traditional services and then taught the girls songs such as “Miriam’s Song” that are traditionally sung at summer programs. After services, we did our Nom Rankings. Afterwards, we were all ready for dinner! Once dinner was over, Leanna and I used a creative way to split up the girls into several groups. The girls were asked to come up with at least one new cheer that we could use for Regional Convention or MIT/AIT. After about 20 minutes, each group performed their cheers and we voted on which cheers should be kept. Our 2nd Vice created little cheer books including our new and old cheers which will be used to teach the MITs all of our cheers! Next, we took a quick break in order to allow Leanna and me to set everything up for the summer program portion of the night. Once we were ready to start, we asked all the girls to come into the room quietly. We had several girls speak about CLTC and Kallah. Each girl spoke about her experience and why it was important to go (and of course, because summer program alum just can’t resist, a few personal stories were added in as well). Although we spent a long time speaking, it was well worth it. At the end of the evening, several girls came up to either Leanna or me and told us that they wanted to go! Finally, to wrap up the night, we all gathered in a room lit by candles. Leanna and I asked boundary breaker questions and had everyone go around and answer the question if they pleased. It was a really great bonding experience for the entire chapter. Overall, the night was a huge hit and we now have 9 girls attending summer programs!
The night was an overnight and it took just around 5 hours.
