Program Summary:

Rabin AZA participated in the JCC's 5th annual Kosher Chili cook off.

Full Description:

OVERVIEW OF PROGRAM:
Rabin AZA signed up for a booth to compete at the chili cook off. The AZAs invited the Noms from Rabin BBG to the event. The guys met early at the JCC at eight o'clock in the morning to prepare the chili for the festival. We purchased the ingredients for the chili before hand and the JCC provided the meat and pots. This event took place on February 21 starting at 8 AM and went to 3 PM. We decided to participate because it is a creative, fun activity for our chapter to participate in.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
One member of our chapter found a recipe for us to use. The JCC did provide us with the meat, pots and water. Every item used in the chili had to be Kosher or you were not allowed to add it into your chili.

PLANNING PROCESS / TIMELINE:
The board had already had this event in mind when we set our calendar for the term. Our president got in touch with the JCC to sign up for a booth. Normally the entry fee is $200 but the JCC was magnanimous and only made us pay half price. We met at the JCC at 8 in the morning to make the chili. The festival started at 12. There was a band and many activities for kids to do at the festival. Several chapter members volunteered to run booths since the JCC gave us a discounted price on the entry fee and in return members from our chapter volunteered at activities for the kids (moon bounce, pony ride, etc.). Most people began leaving around 2 and 3 after helping clean up.

PROGRAM LOGISTICS:
We charged each member who came $5 in order to pay the entry fee to the JCC. For lunch people either ate our chili or went to go buy some food at the event. We created a facebook event, made phone calls, texted, and sent out emails to promote this event.

Submitter's Suggestions:

Try to negotiate a deal so you don't have to pay full entry fee since BBYO is non profit. Make sure all items you get have some indication they are kosher.
