    Program Summary:

A Jewish twist on a popular TV show. By showing a way of dealing with secular Judaism, ergo "Best of Both World." This was a Shabbat and sisterhood themed program.

    Full Description:

    Who: Chapter, all BBG's
What: Secular Judaism and Dealing with Judaism in a Christian World
Where: Anywhere, someone's house is a good idea
    When: Shabbat (Friday)
Why: A fun night as well as educational and still incorporating the fold of sisterhood and still following the rules of programs on Shabbat.

    Supplies Needed:
    Shabbat Candles
    Grape juice for wine
    Challah
    Karaoke Machine

Planning Process: 1-2 weeks of planning

Logistics: everyone was asked to bring $5 that covered the price for 8 girls.
    1 advisor is usually sufficient
    food: pizza chips and pop
transportation: everyone came with a ride (parent, sibling, etc)
Publicity: Mazkirah sent fliers home and we talked about it at past programs and reminded all the girls to go

    Program:
    1. We started with reading a prompt I created, these were instances where the girls had to pick between doing something related to being jewish, or doing something social. The discussion should be around 15- 20 minutes long

    2. We lit the shabbat candles and did the prayers for wine and challah. We had dinner then started the program

    3. Karaoke 20-30 minutes
note: girls sang together but the most fun is when the entire chapter sings one song all together. Everyone dances and has a ton of fun!

    4. We then had a song activity, which I also found on program bank, its as followed:

Song Playing activity: Split up into 2-3 separate groups (depends on how many attend), it will have more meaning. Sit in a circle and hand out a post-it note to each group member. Have each person think of and write down a song that describes them or has meaning to them.
    * I made a list of hannah montana songs and the girls picked from that list.
note: since I have a small chapter, the girls in the group picked one song to represent the group and we talked about it, that's another good idea if you have a small chapter.

ex. "Behind These Hazel Eyes by Kelly Clarkson because there is more to me then my hazel eyes etc.."

Play each person’s song & have them explain why they choose that song

    Discussion Questions I used:
    Silly
1.If you had to listen to another culture’s music (Not American or Jewish) what would you choose?
2.If you had to name your child after a song title, what would it be?

    Serious
1.Do you think you personally listen to music with more Christian based messages? Like reliant k or rocket summer?
2.How do you think Jewish music is different from other music?
3.How do you think Judaism is affected by music?
4.How do you think services would be different if music wasn’t aloud?

*After the discussion got started, more questions were asked that aren't on the list. Let the discussion flow and ask questions as points are brought up.

    5. Good and Welfare
this just wrapped up the whole idea of sisterhood by having a venting session where all the girls listen.

    Submitter's Suggestions:

Have a block of time for this, and let the program flow, because it was more fun for the girls when the schedule wasn't followed strictly.
