Welcome
“Hey Girls! I’m Julia and Welcome to Under the Sea Night.”
[If there are a lot of prospectives]
“Before we start our mixer, let’s go around the circle really fast and say our Name, Grade, School, and favorite fish”
Mixer
“Now we’re going to start our mixer. Raise your hand if you’ve ever played ‘Go Fish’ before. Basically, it’s this fun card game where you take turns asking someone in your group if they have a specific card that you’re looking for. If they have the card, then you take all of that number from them and ask again until you don’t gain anymore cards. That is when your turn ends and you ‘Go Fish.’ Basically you pick a card from the deck. When you get a group of four, you put your set face side up. Then you must answer the question from the list. If you got a set of eights, answer question number eight etc.
First things first, I’m going to split you all into groups of two. [Pair up groups to make groups of four]”
Dinner
“Under the Sea, most everyone eats healthy. Sorry but there are no Chipotle or In and Out. So, we’re going to follow their lead and eat some… Salmon.”
Jonah & the Whale
“Although it is not Yom Kippur, I’m going to tell you a story about a Prophet named Jonah.”
Once upon a time in the far way land of Ancient Biblical Times, there was a Navi (Prophet) named Jonah. G-d told Jonah to go to the city of Nineveh and teach the people there to do Teshuva. Otherwise G-d was going to destroy the city. Jonah did not want to go. After all, he was just a man. And there was not a lot that he could do to stop thousands of people from doing bad deeds. It was their culture, and he was just one man.
Jonah did not want to go, and he tried to run away. So, he boarded a boat that was going to Tarshish. As if G-d wouldn’t be able to track him down. On the way to Tarshinish, a great storm arose, tossing the ship about. Jonah asked to be thrown overboard as he knew that the storm was because of him. Sure enough, as soon as he was thrown overboard, the storm stopped.
When Jonah was thrown into the sea, he was swallowed by a great fish, where he prayed to G-d and was forgiven. On G-d’s orders, the fish carried Jonah to shore and he headed towards Nineveh.
In Nineveh, Jonah tells the people G-d orders and they listen to Jonah. Even though Jonah thought that he was insignificant and that he couldn’t accomplish great deeds, all that was lacking was faith in himself.
“Now, what we are going to do is play a game called sharks and minnows. But, let’s put a little spin on it. Jonahs and the Whales. I’m going to choose someone to be the first Whale. The Whale can run around and tag anyone they choose. If you get tagged, you must freeze where you are and try to tag people with your arms. If you are a Jonah you must run from this end to this end when I say run. However, while you’re running around you must stay linked with your partner. If you unlink, you will become a frozen whale.”
Haiti
“In Jonah’s case, he didn’t believe that he could accomplish the task at hand. Even though G-d had faith in him. So, what we are going to do now is take a bit of Jonah’s spirit and use it to deal with a very big problem going on in the world right now.
“In case you didn’t know, Haiti is a beautiful country in the Caribbean. With beautiful beaches, and deep blue waters that seem endless, it is no wonder why so many tourists flock to the beautiful country of Haiti. However, Haiti has not been so lucky. However, on January 12th 2010, a 7.0 Magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. The earthquake left the country in ruin.”
[Hand out Facts about the earthquake and have different girls read them]

[Facts from foxnews]
“The earthquake in Haiti was devastating. But it’s very important that we can band together and raise awareness as well as support and money.
“What we’re going to do now is break into your partner groups and make posters to raise awareness. You can use the facts that we just read, as well as pictures that I’ve printed out. For supplies, you have markers and finger paints. ”
MBA Program

Letter Writing
