Program Summary:

This six-fold is a Holocaust Rememberance-Israel Awareness program that really hits home without getting too intense.

Full Description:

Since it is Holocaust Rememberance Month and AIPAC happened just recently, my Shlicha and I thought this would be a perfect time to have a Holocaust Rememberance-Israel Awareness program.

We started off with a Havdallah in which we presented the members with different scenarios similar to those that people in the Holocaust would be presented with. Each member had a candle and if they made a decision that would cost them their life then they would blow out their flame. You can find the entire Havdallah with the scenarios at this address:http://bbyo.org/r/25505/0/0/aHV0Y2hpc29uc2Nob29sLm9yZw or look me up on buildaprayer.org.

Next there were two stations, one was a discussion mainly about what was talked about at AIPAC but also the leaders answered any questions that members had about Israel. Also we discussed ways that you can stand up against false Israel accusations. At this station the members were given a blue ribbon to wrap around their candle to signify that the Jews all around the world "tie everything together." The Jews around the world are what keep Israel going.

At the other station we learned about the Israeli Defense force. First we had the members split into two teams and complete an obstacle course. There we three basic levels to this obstacle course but they all involved teamwork. At first they played a ridiculously funny game, next they spun around on a bat ten times and had to run back, and lastly they had to jump over a cardboard box and do ten jumping jacks. While the members were competing the two leaders of the station were dressed like "lieutenants." We called them names, squirted them with water guns, and blew whistles as a way of trying to make them feel like they were in the army and this was their training. Next we had a short discussion about why IDF is so important and how it is the only protection Israel has. We gave a few basic facts and told some stories of Israeli soldiers. Then we took our candles one last time and wrote two names on the candles. One was a name of someone who died in the Holocaust and the other was the name of an Israeli soldier to symbolize one person who protected the Jewish faith in the past and one person who is still fighting for the same cause.

At the very end we did a wrap up and explained the candle symbolism. How we, the Jewish people, are the flame. Israel is the glass around the candle because Israel protects us and keeps us going. The ribbon represents Jews around the world and how the tie everything together. Finally how the names of the people represent us, the Jewish people, for standing up in what we believe in.
