Program Summary:
While setting out to plan separates, we, the three BBG coordinators, wanted to inspire BBGs without making it too serious but also making sure we got our point across. We used an inspirational story about an interesting woman.
Full Description:
This entire separates is based around this one story. The story is about a woman who has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and only has a few weeks to live. While meeting with her pastor and getting everything in order for her funeral she tells him that she would like to be buried with a fork. Puzzled, the pastor asks what the reason for this strange request is. The woman simply puts that every time after dinner she would almost throw away her fork but then someone would lean over and tell her to not throw it away and to remember dessert is still left. So she would always sit there thinking to keep her fork because the best has yet to come.
Focusing around the idea of the best is yet to come we then shared stories about our BBYO careers with all of the girls about a time where we did not give up on BBYO and later we found out the the best was yet to come. Some people talked about lost elections and then later winning one, some people talked about a favorite memory, and some people just talked about a certain person that kept them active. After the three BBG coordintators and the three regional N'siahs shared our stories we then opened up the floor and let anyone that wanted to share a story speak. Also prior to separates we made forks for each girl to actually keep so they could have an actual object reminding them about this separates and always reminding them to never give up on BBYO.
Supplies:
Forks (Enough for every girl attending)
Flashlights
Candles
Large room
Set Up:
We started off with a large room and turned all of the lights off. We had ONE plate of candles in the middle and then if you were leading you had a flashlight, but other than that there was no light at all. We did this so everyone would be paying attention and focused.
*Check the attached document for two example stories and for the "Fork Story."
Submitter's Suggestions:
Make sure girls are paying attention and everything is prepared prior to separates.
