    Program Summary:

Weinstein celebrated the Jewish Holiday of Purim with the people of the Chabad House. Listening to the megillah reading, hearing the amazing life of an Israeli, and making sushi was the perfect way to start the celebration of Purim.

    Full Description:

6:00: The girls of Weinstein arrived at the Chabad house

6:15: After getting situated, Weinstein talked with the women of the Chabad house while cutting vegetables.  When all the vegetables were cut, Weinstein was taught how to make sushi. The holiday of Purim is celebrated during the Hebrew month of Adar, which according to Jewish astrology corresponds to the sign of pisces. While learning about the connection of Purim and fish, Weinstein enjoyed their homemade sushi.

7:30: After eating dinner, the BBG girls went downstairs in order to listen to the Rabbi’s megillah reading. Each time the girls heard the word “Hamen” they would enthusiastically make noises while rotating their grogers.

8:00: To conclude the celebration of Purim, the girls gathered around to listen to a speaker. The woman speaker explained her experiences in the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) and her amazing story of all the people she met and all the people she met and how she eventually ended up in Knoxville. After she was done speaking, the floor was opened for questions.

Interacting with the community is a great way for BBGs to show how positive our youth organization is. The girls were able to meet other members of the Jewish community while learning about other Jewish lifestyles.  Celebrating Purim with the Chabad was a fun and interesting way to experience the exciting holiday.
