Program Summary:
Hillel has had a time capsul in their n'siah files since 2000. It said not to open until 2010, and the year had finally come! So, we decided to open the box and create a special ceremony.
Full Description:
At Akron's annual 8th grade overnight, we always have a mini-convention for new perspectives. Each year we start the night off with rotations until about 10 o'clock at night. We then break off and do BBG and AZA chapter inductions and then move into separates activities.
Since this year was 2010, Hillel had the opportunity to do something very special. We have had a time capsule in our files and it was finally time to open it up.
Inside were notes from BBGs who were members during 2000 and other keepsakes that defined Hillel at that time.
We set the room up with "Don't know much about History" playing in the backround. The notes from the old members were laid out on the middle of the floor in a circle with tealights placed on top. All of the members sat around the candles.
We began reading the notes from the older members. (See script).
We talked about the values of maintaining tradition, inspiring future BBgGs, writing goals, etc. We decorated the our box, and by the time the program was over, we had a new time capsule for Hillel BBG in 2020.
Submitter's Suggestions:
After breaking so many times, the girls got impatient. Especailly the ones who have never been to a BBG event before. I would not recommend doing this program with a lot of perspective members.
