Program Summary:
Hillel and Vivian Brown BBG came together for a post-secret christmas eve-eve sleepover!
Full Description:
The program followed the format of a pre-made power point that the program planners made in advanced. Every year, Hillel holds their annual Christmas Eve-Eve Sleepover (on December 23rd) and does fun holiday and sisterhood activities. However, this year, we decided to give it a twist by adding the post secret theme in.
The week before, we went onto postsecret.com and chose our favorite postsecrets. They were all christmas and holiday related which tied our two themes (Christmas holiday time & Post secret) together perfectly. We then did a different activity that went along with different postsecrets.
Attached is our slideshow that we used and below is the schedule.
• 8:00-8:15- Arrive
• 8:15-8:35- Toilet paper mixer
-show first page of powerpoint and explain how the program will work. Then, move on to second slide and read the 1st post secret note.
-to go along with it, everyone was given a toilet paper roll and told to take as much toilet paper as they desired.
-Then, the girls were told that for each square they had, they would have to say something about themselves.
• 8:35-9:00- (community service fold) We moved on to the next slide and read two post secrets. One discussed how one person enjoys giving gifts to strangers rather than their own ungrateful families, while the other secret discussed sending eco-friendly Christmas cards so that the person’s family would think that they are more “environmentally conscious” than they actually are. So, to go along with that, we decorated pre-baked cupcakes with Christmas sprinkles and frosting. We then wrote cards on recycled newspaper to the policemen thanking them for all the hard work they have done for us during the holiday season. The next day, we donated the cupcakes and cards to our local police force.
• 9:00-9:15 (recreation fold)To go along with a post secret which discussed a person whose car had been broken in on the week of Christmas. The robber stole her music, and in response, hundreds of people sent her new CDs which she was very grateful for. So, we played freeze dance to our favorite glee music!
• 9:15-9:45: Pizza Break!
• 9:45-10:05- (social action fold) On another post secret, a man discussed how he got his child’s teacher pregnant at, what was supposed to be, a parent-teacher conference. So, we held a discussion and red facts about teenage pregnancy and talked about our views on the topic.
• 10:05-10:30- (Creativity Fold) The next slide had a post secret about how the person disliked gingerbread houses. So, everyone made gingerbread houses. Our goal was to make a house which the person in the post-secret would like!
• 10:30-10:45 (Judaism Fold) To go along with a post secret that said “I think Jewish Men are Hot, but I’m not jewish” we read and discussed what Judaism believes in inter-racial marriages.
• 10:45-11:45- (Sisterhood Fold) The PowerPoint ended with a long series of post secrets. Some were serious and others were funny. We scrolled through them and read them out loud allowing everyone to take the time and think about them. Then, once everyone had a large number of examples, it was everyone else’s turn to make their own post secret. So, we provided markers, crayons, glue, scissors, and magazines. Everyone wrote their secrets down (as many as they wanted). Some were serious while others were funnier. Once everyone finished, we put them in a pile, mixed them up, and read the secrets out loud. We laughed about some, but at the same time, some were very serious. It was hard for us not to know who wrote them so that we could help more. But, the girls did a good job at giving their input and support.
Flyers, phone calls, and e-mails were all made in advanced. Because Vivian Brown lives about 30 minutes away, they were able to carpool.
Submitter's Suggestions:
Be sure that after you are complete with all the scheduled activities, you have movies and other activities to keep girls from dispersing in different rooms and doing their own things.
