    Charades
A lot of the Movie Mamma Mia is about finding yourself and reaching for your dreams. So, what we’re going to do now is play a game of charades. So, pick from this hat and act it out. If you guess the right answer in the audience, it’ll be your turn next.

In Mamma Mia the main character Sophie, discovers what she really wants to pursue and seperates her dreams from her mother’s and her desire to help her mother out. She also discovers that she doesn’t need to know her father to find out who she is.

How do you try to please your family and friends in your life?

What do you want to do when you grow up?

How does your friends and family influence this decision?

What did you used to want to do with your life?

    Intro:
“Hey girls and Mom’s as well as Aunts and Friends… Welcome to Mamma Mia Night! I am Julia, and this is Jenna.”

    Mixer:
“The first thing that we’re going to do is a mixer… So what is going to happen is everyone is going to pair up with their daughter or Mom/Friend/Aunt. Everyone is also going to also get a papter plate. Your paper plate is going to end up having a drawn picture of you on the front, and three bullet points of three things that describe you. Make sure you don’t write any names on the plate. But… the twist is that you’re going to be creating your Mom’s plate, and Mom’s your daughter’s plate. NO SHOWING EACHOTHER THE PLATES! So picture, and three descriptive sentences of facts.”

[Pass out plates and markers. 7 Minutes to decorate].

“Okay, so now that you have completed eachother’s plates… still don’t show eachother. On the cound of three I want you to toss the plates into the air. Then you are going to pick up a plate from the floor. [not your plate] and find the person who’s plate you have. After you have found your person, follow her around  until they’ve found the person whose plate they have and you have found the person with your plate. This will eventually create a chain/circle”

“Now that you’re in a circle, you are going to present the plate in your hand. It should belong to the person to your left.

    Fashion Show:

One major thing that immediately comes to mind when I think of my mom is fashion and clothes. Even when I was really little, my mom loved dressing me up in little outfits with frills, cute shades, and even cute tennis shoes. Even today we enjoy shopping together when we both have a little spare time. To bring back memories for the moms of when they used to dress us up and to reverse roles for a little bit, we’re going to split up into groups and have a fashion show but to switch it up, we are going to be dressing up the moms! In addition, you only get one material to make the outfits!
    Materials:

    • trash bags
    • toilet paper
    • sheets

    Procedure:

    • take 15 minutes to make 2 different outfits out of same materials
    • day time and night time look
    • fashion show/red carpet walk to show off outfits

    Jeopardy
“Now we’re going to playing Jeopardy. However, we’re going to split everyone into teams. Mom’s versus Teens.”

“Good Job Moms and Teens. Mom’s your winning prize is… you won’t have to clean up after dinner.”

    Picture Frame
“Nothing captures memories better than a picture, and what better way to remember your mom and daughter than with a picture frame. We’re going to decorate a picture with our mommies using markers, sparkles, and puffy paint. Have fun!”

    Dinner
So, whose mom is a fantastic cook? Mine definitely is! After a hard day of school, practice, band, and everything else we all do, we can always look forward to an amazing, satisfying dinner made by our moms. We thank them every night… right? Now is our time to work with them and help them out a little. Even though it might be a little easier than some of their typical dinners, I bet it’s still nice for them to work a little less for one night.

    Main Dish Group 1

    •    1 pound dried penne
    •    Salt and freshly ground black pepper
    •    3 cloves garlic, sliced
    •    3 tablespoons olive oil
    •    3 tablespoons roughly chopped fresh parsley, for garnish
    •    2 lemons juiced
    •    1/2 cup grated Parmesan

Cook the pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water, until al dente. Drain well.
Add the cooked pasta and turn heat off. Mix all together.
Remove pasta to a large bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle in chopped parsley. Add the juice of 2 lemons and mix. Before serving top with Parmesan.

    Side Dish Group 2

    •    6 large garlic cloves, chopped
    •    1/4 cup flat-leaf parsley
    •    1 tablespoon fresh chopped basil leaves
    •    1 teaspoon salt
    •    1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    •    1/2 cup good olive oil
    •    1 large baguette

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Place the garlic, parsley, basil, salt and pepper in the bowl of a food processor fitted with the steel blade and process until finely minced. Heat the olive oil in a medium saute pan over medium heat. Add the garlic and parsley mixture and cook for 1 minute, until the garlic is tender but not browned. Remove from the heat and set aside.
Slice the baguette lengthwise down the center, but not all the way through, and spoon the garlic mixture into the bread. Place the bread on a sheet pan and bake for 8 minutes. Slice diagonally and serve warm.

    Side Dish Group 3

    •    1 hothouse cucumber, unpeeled, seeded, and sliced 1/4-inch thick
    •    1 red bell pepper, large-diced
    •    1 yellow bell pepper, large-diced
    •    1 pint cherry or grape tomatoes, halved
    •    1/2 red onion, sliced in half-rounds
    •    1/2 pound feta cheese, 1/2-inch diced (not crumbled)
    •    1/2 cup calamata olives, pitted
    For the vinaigrette:
    •    2 cloves garlic, minced
    •    1 teaspoon dried oregano
    •    1/2 teaspoon Dijon mustard
    •    1/4 cup good red wine vinegar
    •    1 teaspoon kosher salt
    •    1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    •    1/2 cup good olive oil

Place the cucumber, peppers, tomatoes and red onion in a large bowl.
For the vinaigrette, whisk together the garlic, oregano, mustard, vinegar, salt and pepper in a small bowl. Still whisking, slowly add the olive oil to make an emulsion. Pour the vinaigrette over the vegetables. Add the feta and olives and toss lightly. Set aside for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend. Serve at room temperature.
    Cheers
“When we do Havdallah, you’re going to experience something a little bit odd. It’ll appear to be a bunch of teens yelling and screaming cheers. We’re really passionate about our cheers, and we’re going to be a bit loud. However, all of you are going to create your own cheer to compunsate and show the girls how awesome you are. A cheer can be anything from changing the lyrics of a song your really like, or a chant that explains what your group is. So, I’m going to split you all into two groups and you all will have a few minutes to create a cheer. Then you will teach your cheer to the group and perform after Havdallah. Have fun!”

    Jews In different generations
“As a Jewih Girl living in a world full of crippling morals and in an environment that isn’t incredibly Jew Friendly, it’s pretty easy for someone to get lost into a world where being a Jew as well as Jewish values loose a whole lot of importants. Lucky for me, BBYO has helped me discover more of my Jewish culture and make me appreciate being unique. However, throughout the ages Jewish Teens haven’t always been so lucky.

Girls, what is it like growing up as a Jewish teen in our society?

Moms, what was it like growing up as a Jewish Teen?

What is it like as a Jewish Adult

    How have things changed?

How is being a Jewish Teen/Or Adult different from people who aren’t Jewish?

    Community Service

As we live our incredibly blessed lives, there are a whole lot of people in the world who are not as fortunate as us. Sure, we’ve heard it all too many times. And I cannot stress enough how lucky we are that we can live our lives freely, without fearing the wrath of someone who controls you or has the power to hurt you. We’re human beings, not objects. Unfortunately, there are a lot of people who are not free to live their lives that way.

Human trafficking happens around the globe. It is the illegal trade of people, and is a type of slavery. Unfortunately, Human trafficking is only getting worse and has before one of the fastest growing industries in the world.

Human trafficking is a genre of slavery. Victims are generally used for prostitution, forced labor, and other involuntary servitude.

In spring of 2004, Katya (not her real name), like thousands of other foreign exchange university students, was looking forward to the summer job placement that she and a friend had received in Virginia Beach, Va. When she and her friend Lena arrived at Dulles Airport after a long flight from Ukraine, they were relieved to be met by fellow countrymen who spoke Russian.
The two men, Alex Maksimenko and Michael Aronov, were holding signs with the girls’ names and greeted them by taking their bags and luggage. Charming and reassuring, Aronov informed the girls that they had been reassigned to a job in Detroit where they would waitress and perfect their English language skills.
The men drove Katya and Lena to the Greyhound bus station and gave them tickets to Detroit. Confused and exhausted, the girls had no reason to question the change of plans.

“When we got to the hotel in Detroit, everything changed,” says Katya. “They closed the door and sat us down on the couch, took our passports and papers and said, ‘You owe us big money for bringing you here.’ They gave us strip clothes and told us that we were going to be working at a strip club called Cheetahs.”
Shocked and scared, the two women were subjected to physical, mental and sexual abuse  over the next year as they were forced to work 12-hour shifts stripping for local Detroit men’s clubs. According to immigration customs agent Angus Lowe, the men controlled the women through intimidation with guns and threats to hurt family members back home.
Katya and her friend are two of the estimated 17,000 young women and girls annually who are forced to work in the sex industry in the U.S. by organized criminals. “Chicago, Houston, St. Paul, Minnesota, these crimes are happening in every community in America big and small,” says Marcie Forman, director of investigations for ICE (Immigration Customs Enforcement).   “We’re talking about money here. Millions of dollars, and these people don’t think about these women as human beings. They think of them as dollars and cents,” Forman says.

Although men are brought into Human Trafficking, it is a trade that generally involves women. In many ways it is our job to do our best to support organizations trying to put an end to human trafikking, as well as educate others.

What we’re going to do is hand out pringle containers, it’s going to be your own mini tzedakah box. And we hope that you all will do your best to put spare coins into the container, as well as gather money from family members and friends. When you’re container is full, please give it to me or Jenna and we will donate the money to an organization:

    Submitter's Suggestions:

Make sure you set aside a good amount of time for the parent in training before the event. What we did, and you can also do, is have the parents come half an hour early and just have the PIT before the event itself.
